I was very distressed when I received this news story that contained “Police Shoot Dog” in the headline.
This is a story that everyone should be aware of. It’s our awareness and communication with one another about this subject that will foster change in the system, and hopefully bring reform to future situations such as this, so that they can hopefully be handled with the utmost conservatism.
Police were searching for a missing 3 year old boy at the time that they entered 27 year old Sean Kendall’s backyard. The police claim the dog became aggressive – Sean Kendall claims that his 2 year old Weimaraner, Geist, has never been aggressive in the past. Even if he had become aggressive, isn’t the dog doing his job by defending the property? Police reacted by shooting and killing the dog. The Sergeant of the precinct believes his officers did nothing wrong, since they were legally permitted to enter the backyard.
It’s very sad that this dog owner lost his Weimaraner, and we all empathize with his pain and wish him and his family peace following this horrific event. At the very least this issue should be discussed and circulated. Please share.
