You’ve seen dog trics, maybe cat tricks… but have you ever seen pig tricks?
When I was younger, I always assumed that dogs and cats were unique in their intelligence and ability to be trained to go outside to use the bathroom, sit, roll over, etc. I also never imagined how cute a pig could be as a pet. Now certainly, pigs are not for everyone, but for owners that are knowledgeable about caring for them and have the space and finances to accommodate them, they can be charming, intelligent and cute little companions.
I recently met someone who actually was able to train their piggy to sit and rollover in less than a day! That’s more than I can say for my Olde English Bulldog, or even the Poodle we had in my family when I was a kid.
Another interesting and amusing tidbit that I recently learned was that pigs are very vain… as indicated by their love for mirrors. It is theorized that they can recognize themselves in the mirror, and subsequently spend a lot of time in front of one if it is afforded to them… checking themselves out. Maybe we should rename pigs to Cassanovas! They’re charming, handsome, and vain!
