This orangutan and dog have an incredible friendship – I was captivated from start to finish.
One day, when Surya the orangutan was out on one of his daily adventures with his caretaker and pet elephant, a beautiful friendship was born. All of a sudden, a hound dog appeared on the side of the river and Surya the Orangutan jumped down from the elephant, ran up to the dog, and immediately hit it off. They hugged and played, and eventually when it was time to go home, Roscoe (as the hound would eventually be named), returned home with them. He refused to leave because he wanted to stay with Soria!
From then on, they were inseparable. Surya loves Roscoe so much, that every time he has food, he breaks it in two and gives half to Roscoe. Soria even walks Roscoe on a leash!
“Anything they can do together, they enjoy. Even if they just lay down together and hug.”
One of the concerns that the caretakers have is that, at the moment, Surya is only 6 and still relatively small. At some point, around the age of 15, Soria will weigh hundreds of pounds and have incredible strength. Hopefully, they won’t have to be separated!
For now, however, they are together constantly, and I wish them many more years blissful monkey business!
