When her rescuers found Caitlyn, a 1 year old Chocolate-Lab Staffordshire Terrier mix, they couldn’t believe what they were seeing: electrical tape had been tightly wrapped around her muzzle, causing her tongue get stuck between her teeth. Not only that, but the tape had lacerated her skin, too. Aldwin Roman, the director of anti-cruelty for Charleston Animal Society, couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Though he’s no stranger to animal cruelty, he labeled this incident, “the most malicious case of animal abuse” he’d ever witnessed in North Charleston, South Carolina.

There’s no doubt that this had been done very deliberately, and with the intention to inflict harm. Caitlyn had been suffering from this torture for over 48 hours, unable to eat or drink. Immediately, the team went to work to free her from from the tape and restore her quality of life. However, they feared that Caitlyn would never fully recover.
Who Could Ever Do This To Such A Beautiful Creature?
Because the tape had constricted blood flow so severely, there was a chance that she could lose part of her tongue. This would have made it difficult if not impossible to eat and drink. Not only that, but the severity of her lacerations meant she may have been permanently scarred. After an outpouring of donations and love from people that believe in human decency, Caitlyn began undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, with a $1,000 reward offered, an investigation was immediately initiated to find the culprit. If convicted, the perpetrator could potentially face a $5,000 fine and 5 years in prison.
Finally, an arrest was made. William Leonard Dodson, 41, was arrested on charges of animal cruelty and torture, as reported by The Charleston Post & Courier. It appears justice will be served for Caitlyn.
Caitlyn, on the other hand, has a future full of love and dog treats ahead. After undergoing treatment to repair her injuries, she’s in a foster home where she will stay until after the court case. There, she lives with a new friend – a handsome boy named Oreo. You go, girl! Nothing is official yet, but the rumor is that her foster home may become her forever home.
