I never knew that this is what a newborn gorilla looks like – it’s amazing how you can go through decades of your life and one of the most commonly referenced animals is a gorilla, and yet you’ve never seen one that is a baby. It’s especially crazy when you take into consideration how interesting and cool they look.
These pictures of the gorilla, which has not yet been named, were taken on Wednesday, August 2oth, 2014, after the mother of the gorilla didn’t make a maternal bond within the first day of life. The gorilla is now under the care of veterinary professional, Dr. Jennifer D’Agostino. Now the animal care taking team is trying to determine whether the gorilla will be placed with a surrogate mother or returned to the group of gorilla. Anyway, see for yourself! So cool! I’ve never seen a newborn gorilla before. This particular breed is called a Western Lowland Gorilla. She hasn’t been named yet, but what a beautiful creature.

Although this newborn gorilla will likely grow to be hundreds of pounds, she was born at only about 4. This was the second baby born by the mother.
