I didn’t even know a 19 year old dog could exist. What an incredible animal Baxter is… I was brought to tears as soon as I saw him lying in the wagon. On one hand, it’s a beautiful privilege to have a wonderful animal like Baxter around for almost 20 years. On the other hand, as a dog gets up in years, we start to come to the realization that each day is a gift, and that soon we will need to say good bye.
Baxter, in particular, is a 19 year old dog that dedicated his life providing therapy services to patients. His specialty was working with terminally ill hospice patients, and you can really see the benefits that his presence provides the patients. He licks them and reminds them of the beauty of life, and I think that especially a very old dog like Baxter gives the patients the feeling that they aren’t alone, and that all of the creatures on earth are here for a time. The important thing is that we appreciate every day that we are given, and live it to the fullest. Appreciate the people you love, an never be afraid to tell them how you feel.
